Hello you lovely bunch. I hope you all had a tolerable Christmas.
2016 is on the horizon and it has got me thinking. I have never really cared for new years resolutions as I feel that putting such a label on things automatically sets me up for a fail. However, I am definitely a firm believer of a new year meaning a fresh new start. Although it is impossible to have a year that is completely stress free, lets grab the bull by the horns and make it as positive as possible.
Here are the changes I hope to make in 2016.
Stop saving things for special occasions.
I was scrolling through Tumblr whilst on the train the other day and I stumbled across a text post that was written by baphomeme. It really struck a chord with me and it was something that I decided to apply to my everyday life from that moment onwards. The post read:
“I’m serious about that “stop saving things for special occasions” even if you aren’t in your 20’s. That’s for everyone. It’s one of the most useful things I’ve learnt lately.
Stop! just stop. Eat the special snack. Drink the expensive hippie tea. Use the incense or the bath bomb or whatever you paid way too much for.
When we save things for special occasions/rainy days it contributes to us feeling like A) Our day to day existence is lacklustre and B) You have to be feeling a certain level of bad, or have to reach a certain level of socially accepted achievement to enjoy things.
Just give yourself stuff. There are definitely sometimes reasons to withhold things from yourself – as motivation, if its something you consciously want to use sparingly etc. – but at least for me half the time it just turns into self-flagellation and also cool things and cool experiences and nice treats just collect dust while I wait for some fabled day when I convinced myself that I finally deserve it.
Just f**king give yourself stuff dude. life’s so mind-blowingly short.”
I really hope that 2016 will be a year of me living my life to the fullest and you should to the same. Stop saving things for best. You don’t need a reason to treat yourself. You can read the full text post here.
Make more of an effort to eliminate the things that distract you from achieving tasks efficiently and seeing the beauty in life. No phone. No internet. No TV. I have been wanting to implement a tech curfew before I go to sleep for a while now and I don’t have a justifiable reason for why I haven’t. Well, no more excuses.
Be more spontaneous, go out and explore.
There are so many places that I want to visit and so many things I want to see.
In 2016, I want to turn my “Would love to do” list into a “Things I’ve done” list. Next year, I hope that I will make more time to explore the incredible things that the world has to offer.
Be open to new ideas
“If you don’t have a plan, you can end up doing some interesting things.” – Karl Pilkington
I have used this quote before and to be honest, I will never get bored of it.
A great way to contribute towards experiencing the most positive year that you can is having the ability to accept that not everything needs to be/can be controlled. Roll with the punches and see what happens. You wont regret it.
Be kinder to yourself
For me, 2015 was a year of self criticism and there was a definitive lack of kindness towards myself. Hopefully, I can put self care on the top of my priority list in the new year.
If you knew the amount of books that I have half read in 2015 you’d think that I was taking the piss. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a 2016 that features lots and lots of reading.
Drink more water
I did the 30 Day Water Challenge recently and noticed amazing benefits in many aspects of my life. My skin was glowing after just the first week and overall, I felt so much healthier.
I printed off a “30 Day Water Challenge” chart off of Pinterest and stuck it onto my fridge. I found that the challenge flew by so I want to make it my mission to carry it through to the new year.
If a paper chart isn’t really your bag then there are many apps available to help you track your water intake.
I hope you all have a wonderful New Year. Stay safe, be kind to yourself and I shall see you on the other side!
