“Me: Simone, can you sum up 2016 for me in 3 words?
Simone: Oh god. ‘A Fucking Mess’?”
AHHH, 2016. Two. Thousand. And. Sixteen. The year of heroes leaving us on earth with the likes of Katie Hopkins as well as copious amounts of shit hitting the fan.
I don’t know about you, but it has left me wondering how so much can happen in a year that simultaneously feels as though it has just flown past.
As far as I’m concerned, 2016 is that person you know that you walk past in town but you cant be arsed to talk to, so you just pretend you didn’t notice their existence even though both you and I know, you blatantly did didn’t you?
This year has left me wanting to sit in a dark room rocking whilst I repeat to myself “Planet Earth 2 came back. If nothing else, Planet Earth 2 came back.”
On a personal note, there’s a whole heap of memories that I want to forget about. From tripping over whilst listening to “Gotta Have It” by Jay Z and Kanye West, to making my sisters birthday cake that was so aesthetically awful you could have been convinced into thinking that it had been thrown in the air and smacked onto the cake board with a baseball bat. Memoriiieeessss.
If I’m being honest, its going to be easier for us to just erase it from our minds and forget that any of it ever happened. I’m up for that If you are?
Let’s get serious though. I really want to do everything that I can to make 2017 as positive as it can be. There will always be ups and downs, that’s inevitable, but as long as I know that I have tried my best, I think that I’ll be pretty chuffed.
I personally believe that New Years Resolutions get a bit of a bad rep. I mean, I hate that term anyway but there’s nothing wrong with taking a moment to review things and figure out what you want to improve on and as it turns out, a new year feels like the perfect place to do just that.
Its not even about criticising yourself, but I’m sure everyone has things that they would love to begin doing, or new hobbies that they would like to take up.
With 2016 in mind, here’s a list of 12 lessons to take into 2017:
- If you want to be inspired, read.
- Don’t underestimate yourself.
- Do it now. Stop waiting around for god knows what.
- In the morning, touch your journal before you touch your phone.
- Be more open with others.
- Don’t feel guilty for spending time on things that you enjoy.
- Ignore bullshit.
- Have more solo dance parties.
- Learn from your mistakes, but don’t beat yourself up about them.
- Don’t fucking give up on yourself.
- Make more of an effort to enjoy single life.
- Every night, keep a glass of water by your bed. If you don’t drink it throughout the night, make sure you finish it in the morning.
I also wanted to say thank you to my followers who have been with me for another eventful year, and a special thanks to the followers who have newly joined us on this journey. Let’s get through this together folks!
Happy New Year you beautiful bunch!
