“I base my fashion sense on what doesn’t itch.” – Gilder Radner
One of the things that isn’t spoken about much is how your mental health can affect your personal style. I suppose that’s because on the grand scale of things, when I was at my worst the last thing that I cared about was what I looked like (which as a self confessed style lover, at times I found that hard to accept)
As a sufferer of OCD and anxiety, my style is determined by my mood. If I’m having a particularly bad day, I find it near on impossible to wear shoes that slow me down, anything too heavy, jewellery (even the really dainty stuff) and anything that I can’t sit comfortably in. On a good day though, the style world is my oyster.
I remember when I first began working for COS. I found it so refreshing to be around a brand proving that simplicity, comfort and timelessness didn’t have to mean boring. That was the moment that I really discovered like minded people and went on to really refine my style.
If I had to sum up my personal style in one word, it would be “Sunday”. I like to take the essence of Sunday and apply it to everyday life. Along with adding something snazzy, feminine, masculine or a little bit unique depending on my mood.
I love nothing more that to wear a pair of slim black trousers, an oversized jumper and a good old pair of kicks.
I absolutely adore anything oversized. If Gok Wan found out he’d probably give me a right rollicking and then stick about 16 chunky bangles on me but its just chilled out isn’t it? Don’t get me wrong, what I really find fun about the clothes I wear is how I can dress them up or down but it still always feels like “me”.
For the most part, I like to feel pretty swag in what I wear and that’s the aim isn’t it? to feel comfortable and confident?
In the words of Kanye West “I dress to impress myself.” and that’s my style ethos.
I have put together a few outfits below that I would wear and absolutely love. I hope that you enjoy this little introduction to my personal style.
